LGBT History Month is a month-long annual observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements. Celebrated every February in the UK.
Islington holds events with the aim of promoting knowledge of LGBT History and experience; share information on positive LGBT contributions to British Society; and heighten the confidence and awareness of LGBT people and their cultural heritage.
Islington and Camden councils joined forces last February with a four week long multi-media extravaganza in both boroughs featuring literary, musical and educational events that champion equality and make sure the LGBT community takes its rightful place in the history books.
Now in its 6th year in the UK, LGBT History Month has charted the struggle for equality in mainstream society, with each year showcasing a new unsung contribution from the LGBT community.
