    Restoration of the Assembly Hall

    Islington Town Hall

Islington’s historic Assembly Hall, located next to Islington Town Hall in Upper Street, has completed an extensive restoration and is now taking bookings for your events in 2010.

Originally opened in 1930, the hall was closed for almost three decades. After a complete restoration the hall is going to be officially reopened on its 80th anniversary in March - with a week long event called The Assembly Hall Showcase. For more information about this event, including performances and tickets, see the link below.

The hall has retained plenty of its original features – including a stage, a balcony, seating for 220 downstairs and 150 in the gallery and a fully-sprung ballroom dance floor – are still intact. These stunning features have been restored and complemented by modern twists, to create a contemporary, adaptable, accessible venue that has something for everyone.

The Assembly Hall is now available to take booking for a whole host of events. Find out more by clicking the link below.

    Your memories

In its post-war heyday, the Assembly Hall played host to stars of the silver screen. Actress and singer Diana Dors and ukulele-toting George Formby played here in variety shows. It was also a popular venue for jazz bands and ballroom dance exhibitions.

Do you remember visiting the Assembly Hall back then? If so, we’d love to hear your stories. And if you have any photos, then all the better! You can see some of the memories that we have already received by clicking the link below.

Email your memories to assemblyhall@islington.gov.uk call us on 020 7527 3263 or write to Assembly Hall, G11 Town Hall, Upper Street, London N1 2UD.
