With its 1930s charm, the Islington Assembly Hall is perfect venue for a special event

Whether you’re looking for somewhere to celebrate your special day - or a conference space with charm and character - our beautifully restored Assembly Hall is just for you. 

The glamorous interior, once graced by dance hall stars like George Formby and Diana Dors, retains many original art deco features and includes both a fully-sprung, ballroom dance floor and stage making it as adaptable as it is stylish.  

The hall can accommodate a range of layouts to suit your needs, seating up to 170 people cabaret-style or 230 people theatre-style in the main hall. Additional seating is also available for another 200 people in the upper circle.

Modern enhancements include an impressive audio/visual system with large screen projection and a permanently installed PA system. Radio microphones and other presentation aids are also available.

The building is also fully accessible for people with mobility problems and is fitted with a hearing loop.

Conveniently located on Upper Street, the Assembly Hall is easily accessible by public transport. It is a 10 minute walk from either the Victoria tube and overland station at Highbury or Northern tube line at Angel. It is also served by the 4, 19, 30 and 43 bus routes.

Hire rates for events

Our basic rates include hire of the hall (floor level), set up tables/chairs, cleaning, use of the venue's audio/visual technology, alcohol licence and security cover for up to 200 people. Our events manager will also be available throughout to ensure all runs smoothly.

Free community hire scheme

We are very pleased to be offering 10 local community groups, schools or arts organisations the chance to apply for a free use of the Assembly Hall in 2012.

If your group would like to apply to the scheme please read the Criteria and Guidance Notes attached at the bottom of this page and complete the attached application form.

If you would like to hold both your wedding and reception here at Islington Town Hall and Assembly Hall, we can offer you a special package. Please contact our Islington Registrars team on 020 7527 6350 to discuss your options.

Catering options

At the Assembly Hall we like to offer you as much flexibility to design your event exactly as you want it. So we do not restrict you to any specific catering or management packages.

If you would like a hand organising catering for your event, we can put you in touch with event management specialists and catering suppliers who will help you build the ideal package. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements
