Worried About a Child?

Worried About a Child?

What to do if you are worried about a child

If you are worried that a child is experiencing neglect or abuse, whether it is a family member or someone living near by, you should contact Children’s Social Care:

T: 020 7527 7400 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm)
T: 020 7226 0992 (at all other times)

E: cscreferrals@islington.gov.uk (do not use this for urgent cases)

If you believe it is an emergency, please dial 999.

Alternatively, you could speak to a teacher, head teacher, health visitor, school nurse or GP.

There is a specialist police unit specialising in child protection which investigates crimes against children and supports child victims, who will inform social services on your behalf. You can report your concerns anonymously by calling 020 8733 4286.

For further guidance, please see the downloadable Government guidance documents at the bottom of this page.

What happens once you report your concerns?

Our Referral and Advice team will investigate the child’s situation and if necessary, assign a social worker to their case. The social worker will make sure that the child’s situation is assessed, and that the child and their family are able to access any services they may need as part of an agreed plan.
