The Committed to Work programme aims to address the need of employers in the borough, while improving opportunities for Islington residents.
We recognise the importance for employers of recruiting and retaining committed and well-trained staff.
We already offer a wide range of support to help Islington businesses to recruit Islington residents. But we know we can do better, both to improve opportunities for our residents and make Islington a better place to live, work and do business.
Through the Committed to Work programme, Islington employers are pledging their commitment to increasing opportunities for our residents. Employers benefit from identification of candidates who are ready to take up these opportunities, and from support from a range of local organisations to train and develop their staff.
You are invited to make commitments to provide opportunities for people in Islington who are not in work.
Examples of pledges you could make are:
To help make people job ready, we will:
open the doors of our company two days a year, so that local people can find out more about what we do
offer local people experience through temporary jobs/volunteering opportunities/work trials/placements
offer mentoring/buddying to prospective and existing employees
work with schools and training providers to develop vocational training programmes
register all our vacancies and placements with WorkIS (see link to WorkIS page)
interview all job ready candidates
To help keep people in work, we will:
provide in-house training or paid study leave for external training
provide support to new staff through our policies and keep them informed of other support available
offer opportunities to continue training in work
provide progression routes/career starts in the jobs we offer
If you want to pledge your support or find out more, contact:

All Islington employers are welcome to join the programme. Once you have developed your pledge and how it will be delivered, you will receive a Committed to Work certificate, and we will list you on these webpages.
