Applying for a Review of a Premises Licence

Applying for a Review of a Premises Licence

Any interested party may apply for a review of a premises licence once it has been granted. An interested party is anyone living within close proximity of the premises or one of the responsible authorities prescribed under the Licensing Act 2003, such as the police or fire service.

The grounds for the review must be based on one of the four licensing objectives:

  • prevention of crime and disorder
  • prevention of public nuisance
  • public safety
  • protection of children from harm

The council can reject any application for review if it considers it to be frivolous or repetitive. You must make an application for a review on the appropriate form. You also need to give copies to the premises licensee, the designated premises supervisor and the responsible authorities:

  • Police
  • Fire service
  • Health and Safety
  • Planning
  • Environmental Health
  • Child Protection
  • Trading Standards

Guidelines on how to apply for a review on the Department for Culture, Media and Sport website can be viewed by following the link on the right of this page.
