Best Bat None

Best Bar None is a national accreditation scheme for clubs, pubs and bars that are able to demonstrate, through high standards of management, their commitment to providing safe and enjoyable venues for their customers.

Why is the council supporting Best Bar None?

Islington has a reputation for its vibrant nightlife and the council, along with its partners the Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade, recognise that many people are working hard to ensure that Islington’s clubs, pubs and bars provide a safe and attractive venue for customers.

Best Bar None is a scheme which assesses how well venues are run against a nationally agreed standard. Many venues in Islington are already meeting the standard and the council hopes that they will apply for the Best Bar None award and inspire other venues who do not yet meet the standards to improve.

How do I apply for a Best Bar None accreditation?

  • Complete an application form that is available from the council’s licensing team.

  • The application form will ask you questions about what you do to prevent crime and disorder, ensure public safety, protect children from harm and that your venue doesn’t cause a nuisance to your neighbours.

  • A trained Best Bar None assessor will contact you to arrange a meeting to go through you application and they will then make an assessment of whether you have achieved the standard.

  • You can apply at any time for accreditation, which lasts for 12 months.

  • Each November the council will look at all the applications for venues that have received accreditation in the last 12 months and will identify the best pub, club and bar.

  • Why do I want my venue to have Best Bar None accreditation?

    • You will have the opportunity to join a steadily increasing number of venues that have demonstrated their commitment to high standards of management and achieved the Best Bar None Standard

    • You will be able to use the Best Bar None logo on your stationary and in all publicity material to let your customers know that you are working hard to keep them safe.

    • You will be given a Best Bar None plaque and window stickers to show customers that your venue has been assessed and deemed to be well managed.

    • It will provide you with an opportunity to review your systems and procedures and improve standards where necessary to keep your customers safe.

    • It is free – the only cost will be your time in completing the application form and meeting the Best Bar None assessor at a time convenient to you.
