Copies of Certificates

You can get copies of certificates for births, deaths and marriages registered in Islington or London City (after the year 1911) by calling at the Register Office:

Please note that we can produce certificates on the same day only if you arrive at our office or call and order before 11am. Certificates can be ready at 3pm the same day (except first Thursday of the month). Please note that the same day service is subject to change due to staff shortages.
We also offer an Express service for certificate production and this incurs additional charges. Your certificates will be ready in one hour and this must be ordered in person at our office or over the phone before 2pm.

For births, deaths, marriage and civil partnership certificates please call 020-7527-6350 and have a debit or credit card handy, there will be a £1 admin & postage fee. If you prefer to collect, please advise call centre agent. Fees

• full certificate of Birth, Death, Marriage or Civil Partnership: £9
  
• short (abbreviated) certificate of birth: £9
  
• express service (certificates must be ordered before 2pm): £25
  
• if you want the certificate posted out to you it will cost an extra £1

Opening Hours

• Monday to Friday: 9.30am - 4pm
  
• Saturday: By appointment only.
  
• The service closes at 1pm on the first Thursday of each month.
  

You can also write to us at the above address enclosing a stamped addressed envelope. Payment by post can only be accepted with a postal order, as we no longer accept personal cheques. Please note that if you don't include a stamped addressed envelope that you must add an extra £1 to the postal order to cover the admin & postage fees. So a full (standard) birth certificate is £10 and a short (abbreviated) certificate is also £10. Please make the postal order payable to London Borough of Islington, expect approximately a 10 day wait.
