Read Webpages Aloud

ReadSpeaker

ReadSpeaker makes websites talk. Once activated, this software will read aloud the content and links of a web page, including documents such as Adobe PDF files.

This does not replace screen-readers, but it supports people who find it difficult to read and lack tools to help them.

ReadSpeaker is free to use and does not require any downloads. All you need is a computer with internet connection, a sound card and speakers or headphones that are connected to the sound card.

How to use ReadSpeaker

Each page on our website has a link at the top titled Speak this page together with a loudspeaker symbol. Click on this button to activate ReadSpeaker.

The ReadSpeaker menu will appear at the top of the webpage. You can use the buttons to:

  • hear the whole of that page spoken aloud

  • hear only the text or only the hyperlinks on that page spoken aloud

  • highlight a specific piece of text and hear that spoken aloud

Click on the Settings button to customise the way you want ReadSpeaker to work for you. ReadSpeaker can remember your settings for future use. There is also a Help button if you need guidance.

To close ReadSpeaker, click on the X symbol on the right of the menu. This will return you to the standard view of the webpage.
