Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act gives any member of the public access to information held by us. Instead of only releasing information on a 'need to know' basis, public authorities are required to provide ANY information requested, unless there is a very good reason not to (exempt information). The council’s policy about accessing information can be found at the bottom of this page.

There are several ways you can request and obtain information:

  • by searching this website - please use the search and A to Z links, both at the top of this page, to help locate information
  • by fax: 020 7527 2747
  • by post: Information Governance, Islington Council, Room G17, Town Hall, Upper Street, Islington N1 2UD
  • from our Publication Scheme, which is a listing of information we regularly provide. Click the link on the left side of this page for more information on the Publication Scheme

What To Provide When Making a Request

To help us effectively respond to your request, please provide the following:

  • your preferred correspondence details, either an email address or a postal address
  • a detailed description of the information that you would like. The more accurately you describe the information you need, the more effectively we can respond to your request
  • we would also be grateful if you could provide us with a contact telephone number, but this is optional
