Ten million disabled people from across the UK, including tens of thousands of disabled people in Islington, will soon be able to use the internet to check access to hundreds of shops, restaurants, hotels and attractions throughout the borough.
Put together thanks to sponsorship from Islington Council and Marks and Spencer, DisabledGo-Islington will open up Islington to disabled residents and visitors who have hearing, vision and mobility-related access concerns.
DisabledGo - Islington will be part of a National Accessibility project, joining other guides to cities and areas across the UK, including York, Kingston, Cardiff, Brighton, Wandsworth, Edinburgh, and North East Lincolnshire. The project is being financed through a mixture of support from pioneering local authorities and national sponsorship from Marks and Spencer.
Simply by clicking on the link under useful websites, people can check what provisions shops and services have made for disabled visitors. This could include whether a pub offers access for a wheelchair user, whether a cinema has a hearing loop, whether a hotel can offer adapted rooms or whether a restaurant has menus available in large print or Braille.
