Due to the ongoing postal disputes, we are unable to guarantee any suspensions that have been requested by post.
There are three alternative ways to apply for a suspension:
To arrange for a suspension please call 0207 527 2000 or email parkingsuspensions@islington.gov.uk. Alternatively, you can download a parking suspension application form below.
A suspension costs £90 per application for the first day. This can cover several parking spaces within a single parking bay. Additional days cost £15 per parking space, per day. There is no charge for suspending bays on a Sunday or public holiday.
Parking places may be suspended for reasons including:
Parking place suspensions may be arranged in controlled parking zones (CPZs) within Islington when no other option is suitable. A parking place suspension will temporarily prohibit waiting and loading within the suspended area and any vehicles parked within one may receive a ticket. Exemptions can be made for vehicles essential to works for which the parking place is suspended.
We need 14 days notice to implement a suspension so that residents are given enough warning.
We can only suspend parking places on the public highway. We cannot suspend waiting restrictions (yellow lines), zebra crossings or keep clear areas. The council isn't responsible for suspensions on red routes, housing estates or private roads.
Advance warning notices will go up before a suspension starts indicating when, where, and for what reason bays will be suspended. Time plates will be covered by yellow hoods (or the area coned off) on the first day of the suspension, and will be removed when the suspension is over.
A suspension is live 24 hours, 7 days a week and any vehicle parked in a suspended bay may be subject to enforcement such as the issuing of a parking ticket or even removal.
If you want to check if the parking bays in any street in Islington are going to be suspended you can use the handy checker under Useful Websites on the right of this page. Simply select the date and street you want to know about and click submit. The page will then display all the suspensions that are in place.
Return to Service stickers are designed to make space available as soon as a suspension is no longer needed.
When you book a suspension for a domestic move, you will receive a 'Return to Service' sticker by post. This sticker has the appropriate suspensions reference number on it, as well as instructions on how to use it.
All you need to do is place the sticker across the front of the suspension sign as soon as you no longer require the suspension. This will make this bay available for parking use immediately.
Some parking spaces in Turnmill Street have been removed until further notice. Parking spaces are still available at the junction of Clerkenwell Road turning into Turnmill Street, however these may be suspended at short notice. This is to facilitate Network Rail redevelopment work at Farringdon Station as part of the Thameslink upgrade programme. The development works will allow more capacity at the station as well as facilitate the new Crossrail services when they are launched.
Parking provision in the surrounding streets remains unchanged. For information about where you can park follow the link to Park Up under Useful Websites.
