Children from Highbury Quadrant Primary School have been involved in an exciting project run jointly by the Highways and Traffic & Engineering Services at Islington Council. The children were set the challenge of designing fun and educational markings for St Augustine's Path, they were given a budget and used a site plan of the path and measuring equipment to carefully plan the layout of the markings, which are made from thermoplastic. The final designs included a hop scotch, a numbered dragon, the solar system and many other colourful designs. A school assembly was held on Thursday the 18th September 2008 to celebrate the success of the project and prizes were given to the children who have been involved in the project and made St Augustine's Path a much more colourful, fun and vibrant path for the whole community.
Miss Sweeney, teacher and Year 6 students at Highbury Quadrant commented "We wanted to liven up St Augustine's walkway with our delightful patterns so everyone who passes by can enjoy a safer walk to school”.
We spent a lot of time trying to get this fantastic project just right. First we went to the path to measure our distances, then we had to count up how much we were spending to stay on budget. We are proud of our work and are grateful for the experience of designing our own walkway."
