Blue Badge Parking

Use this link if you want to find out more about the European Blue Badge disabled parking scheme.

Where Blue Badge holders can park

If you are the holder of a valid blue badge, or you are driving the holder of a valid badge as a passenger, you can park:

  • on yellow lines where there are no loading restrictions for up to three hours, providing the clock card is displayed and set to your time of arrival
  • in resident bays, and pay and display bays for an unlimited time
  • in designated blue badge bays for an unlimited time

Where Blue Badge holders can’t park

Blue badge holders cannot park:

  • where there are loading restrictions, that is on yellow lines with additional chevrons on the curb stone and/or an additional sign indicating loading is not allowed
  • in a bus lane
  • in permit holder only bays designated for a specific disabled person

Please ensure that your badge is clearly displayed on your dashboard with all information clearly visible.

Please note that blue badge concessions may vary in other local authorities, so please check if you are visiting another borough.

Applying for a Dedicated Permit Space

If you live or work in Islington and no parking is available within a reasonable distance of your home or workplace, you may be able to apply for a bay if you:

  • are a blue badge holder
  • are unable to walk more than 20 meters (a medical assessment may be undertaken)
  • are in receipt of the higher rate component of the Disability Living Allowance for life

If your application is successful, installation can regrettably be a lengthy process. This is because as we are required to consult local people first and then need to complete a number of legal documents before the bay can be put in place.

There is no charge to have a disabled bay placed in Islington. Please contact us on 020 7527 2000 for more details.

Find Blue Badge parking bays anywhere in the UK

The government has produced an online tool to help blue badge holders locate parking bays across the country.

The blue badge parking map can be used to find:

  • red route parking bays in London
  • parking bays in 64 towns and cities across the UK
  • accessible petrol stations in the UK and their service facilities

The service will also outline the address, number of spaces, any time restrictions or special notices that apply to individual allocated blue badge parking bays.
