Solo motorcycles can park free of charge in bays marked solo motorcycles only. These bays are located throughout the borough.
You can find the location of motorcycle parking bays by clicking on the interactive map link on the right or go to the park-up.com website which shows all the parking bays in Islington.
Motorcycles should be parked at right angles to the kerb so that they take up minimum space and do not obstruct other motorcycles entering the bay.
Most of our motorcycle bays have stands to lock your motorcycle to. Please make sure that you lock your motorcycle securely.
Residents with a motorcycle and sidecar will need a permit to park in Islington. A permit will allow the bike and sidecar to park in any resident bay in the owner’s home CPZ. More information about motorcycle permits can be found on our resident parking permit page.
Outside of controlled hours motorcycles with sidecars can park for free in any resident, short stay, or business bay, or on any single yellow line.
Please note motorcycles with sidecars are not allowed to park in Solo Motorcycle Only bays at any time.
Parking rules on Homes for Islington estates and TfL Red Routes such as Upper Street may also be different.
Transport for London are currently conducting an 18-month trial to let motorcycles, mopeds, scooters and tricycles - but not those with sidecars - travel in most red route bus lanes in London.
This means that the above vehicles will be allowed to travel along all Red Route bus lanes in Islington without receiving a penalty charge.
However, non-Red Route bus lanes are not included in the trial and therefore the rules in Islington bus lanes that are not on Red Routes will remain unchanged. Non-Red Route bus lanes can be found in streets such as Essex Road, Caledonian Road, Old Street, Junction Road, St Paul's Road and Balls Pond Road.
To avoid getting a ticket please check the signs first to see if it’s okay to use any bus lane before entering it.
