Suspension of Parking Places

Suspension of Parking Places

Parking places may be suspended for reasons including:

  • facilitating the flow/movement of traffic
  • highways work (e.g. resurfacing)
  • statutory utilities work
  • removals
  • skips (apply for a licence from the highways section on 020 7527 2000)

Parking place suspensions may be arranged in controlled parking zones (CPZs) within Islington when no other option is suitable. A parking place suspension will temporarily prohibit waiting /loading /unloading within the suspended area and any vehicles seen to contravene may be enforced. Exemptions can be made for vehicles essential to works for which the parking place is suspended.

We require 14 days notice to implement a suspension so that residents are given enough warning.

We can only suspend parking places on the public highway. We cannot suspend waiting restrictions (yellow lines), zebra crossings or keep clear areas, or on red routes, housing estates or private roads.

Advance warning notices will go up before the suspension starts indicating when, where and for what reason bays will be suspended. Time plates will be covered by yellow hoods (or area coned off) on the first day of the suspension, and will be removed when the suspension has expired.

A suspension is live 24 hours, 7 days a week and any vehicle parked in a suspended bay may be subject to enforcement such as the issuing of a parking ticket and subsequent vehicle removal.

To arrange for a suspension please call 0207 527 2000. Alternatively, you can download a parking suspension application form below.

The service charge is £90 per application for the first day. This can cover several parking spaces within a single parking bay. For additional days, the charge is £15 per parking space, per day. There is no charge for suspending bays on a Sunday or public holiday.

For more information on suspensions please phone 020 7527 2000 or email parkingsuspensions@islington.gov.uk.

Find Out Where and When Bays are Suspended

If you want to check if the parking bays in any street in Islington are going to be suspended you can use the handy checker under Do It Online. Simply select the date and street you want to know about and click submit. The page will then display all the suspensions that are in place.

Return to Service Stickers

Return to Service stickers are designed to make space available as soon as a suspension is no longer needed.

When you book a suspension for a domestic move, you will receive a 'Return to Service' sticker by post. This sticker has the appropriate suspensions reference number on it, as well as instructions on how to use it.

All you need to do is place the sticker across the front of the suspension sign as soon as you no longer require the suspension. This will make this bay available for parking use immediately.

Through the use of these stickers, we have a real opportunity to free up kerbside space for all drivers.

Parking in Turnmill Street, EC1

All parking spaces in Turnmill Street EC1 close to Farringdon Station have been removed until further notice. This is to facilitate Network Rail redevelopment work at Farringdon Station as part of the Thameslink upgrade programme. The development works will allow more capacity at the station as well as facilitate the new Crossrail services when they are launched. The works are being carried out by Network Rail.

Parking provision in the surrounding streets remains unchanged. For information about where you can park follow the link to Park Up under Useful Websites.

If you have any further questions please contact the Network Rail National Helpline on 08457 11 41 41.
