Yellow lines show where there are parking restrictions. You cannot park on double yellow lines at any time of the day. Single yellow lines only apply during specific designated times.
If single yellow lines operate for different times to the controlled parking zone (CPZ) they are in, they will have a sign or timeplate in the street indicating the times that you cannot park there.
If you are a blue badge holder you can park for up to three hours on yellow lines provided there are no loading restrictions in place and your clock card is displayed and set to your time of arrival.
Before 11am commercial vehicles can load on a yellow line for an unlimited amount of time provided there are no loading restrictions in place (see below).
After 11am commercial vehicles can park to load for up to 40 minutes in parking bays (residents, business, pay and display and shared use bays) and on yellow lines provided there are no loading restrictions in place.
Loading must however be a continuous activity. If an enforcement officer sees a commercial vehicle unattended and no sign of loading they will give vehicles up to 3.5 tons five minutes observation, and 10 minutes observation for vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tons. If after this time no loading has taken place a parking ticket will be issued. No observation period is required for private vehicles.
You cannot load in bus lanes or on yellow line where loading restrictions are also in place.
The 40 minute loading rule does not allow vehicles to park before or after loading. If you need to park for these purposes, you must pay to park in a pay and display bay or purchase a permission to park notice from our website.
Loading restrictions indicate that you cannot park at all, even for loading or unloading goods.
Loading restrictions can be on both single and double yellow lines and are indicated by yellow markings on the kerbstone and/or an accompanying black and white timeplate or sign.
If no specific days are indicated on the signs, the restrictions are in force every day including Sundays and bank holidays.

If you are a blue badge holder, you cannot park on yellow lines where there are loading restrictions.
In Islington any vehicle being loaded or unloaded as part of a removal can park on a single yellow line or permit bay for free provided there are no local loading restrictions and that the loading is continuous.
