Clamping and Removal

Clamping and Removal

Clamping Vehicles

Clamps are rarely used in Islington. In fact, Islington Council was the first in London to abandon the practice of clamping illegally parked vehicles, as well as being the last to introduce it. Occasionally, persistent offenders or drivers committing permit fraud or abuse will still be clamped however.

Removing or Relocating Vehicles

On occasion, dangerously or illegally parked vehicles are removed from the street or relocated to another suitable bay elsewhere in the street. When this happens the council immediately notify an organisation called TRACE. TRACE hold details of all vehicles that have been removed or relocated by local authorities within the London area, and also for vehicles moved by Transport for London.

Drivers unsure of whether a vehicle has been relocated or removed can call TRACE on 020 7747 4747.

Vehicles may also be removed as a result of TfL’s congestion charging scheme. Visit the TfL website (by clicking the link on the right) or phone 0845 900 1234 for details.

Releasing a vehicle

To pay for the release of a clamp, or to collect a vehicle that we have removed the driver will need to go to our vehicle pound in person. They will need to take personal identification and proof of ownership of the vehicle.
