If you want to renew an existing resident permit use our online form to do it. You will need to read our terms and conditions before you do.
You will need the account number from your permit renewal reminder letter and your vehicle registration number to be able to complete your application. The cost of your permit depends on either the CO2 emissions’ or the engine size of your vehicle(s). These details can be found on either your vehicle registration document (V5) or you can follow this link to the Direct.gov website. You will need these details to be able to complete your application.
Most people who live in Islington can apply for a parking permit. One of Islington’s key priorities is to make the borough cleaner so we have introduced some permit free developments. If you want to apply for a permit and are not sure if you live in one of these areas please call us on 020 7527 2000. A current list of permit free properties is available to view on our website.
We won’t be able to issue the permit immediately; we need you to send us some documents to prove you are a resident and that you own your vehicle, you will be able to print off a holding permit that will be valid for 14 days and will allow you to park in the controlled parking zone where you live. This holding permit will need to be displayed on the windscreen inside your vehicle where our enforcement staff can easily see it. You will need to have access to a printer so that you can print the holding permit.
If we do not receive your documents within the 14 days and your holding permit expires, your permit application will be void and the council will not refund any payments made. If you submit more than one temporary permit application online and subsequently do not send us the required documents you will be denied any consideration for a refund and your vehicle may also be prioritised for proactive enforcement action, as a matter of possible fraud.
The 14 day holding permit will start from the date of your application and should be replaced by the permit we send you after you have sent us your documents. If you are still displaying the 14 day permit after it expires you may get a parking ticket.
If you want a permit for a scooter or motorcycle please see further down this page.
Please note, we may not issue a permit if:
Each applicant can apply for one permit with up to three vehicles on it. You must post us copies of your proof of address and ownership for each vehicle that you include.
Please note:
The cost of your permit depends on either the CO2 emissions or the engine size of your vehicle(s). These details can be found on your vehicle registration document (V5) or you can follow this link to the Direct.gov website. You will need these details to be able to complete your application. Please note we only accept CO2 emissions data from the DirectGov website or from your vehicle registration document.

If you currently have a permit and have changed your vehicle you can swap the vehicles over using the permit and voucher application form below. You can either return the application form and your old permit to us by post or go to Contact Islington at 222 Upper Street to complete the change over. The permit remains the property of Islington Council.
It is important that you tell us if you have moved to another address in Islington, even if it's within the same controlled zone. You may not be eligible for a permit if the property you are moving to is permit free. A current list of permit free properties is available to view on our website.
If you have moved to a different controlled parking zone please change your address online using this form. Please note: this form is not for motorbikes, scooters or businesses.
