Hire Car Permits

Hire Car Permits

If you hire vehicles on a regular basis you might like to use the hire car permit and voucher scheme. The permit has to be used in conjunction with vouchers. Vouchers for hire cars can be used to cover a full day, unlike visitor vouchers which can only be used for up to six hours.

Please note residents in permit free developments are not able to use this scheme.

The permit costs £12 annually and you can purchase an unlimited number of vouchers.

Vouchers cost:

  • Book of 20 x 30 minutes - £6
  • Book of 10 x 3 hours - £18

Alternatively you could purchase a one month resident permit. You will need to supply the following:

Proof of address (one of the following)

  • Council tax bill for the current tax year
  • Current gas, water, electricity or landline telephone bill (from the last 3 months)
  • Driving licence (use this for address and age)
  • Tenancy agreement
  • Department for Work and Pensions letter (dated within the last 6 months)

Vehicle

  • Hire/Lease agreement

Please note:

  • You cannot purchase a hire car permit if you already have a resident permit for any vehicle you own
  • You will need to display your permit along with your hire car vouchers, on the windscreen inside your vehicle, where they can be easily seen by our civil enforcement officers.

To apply by post please use the permit and voucher application form at the bottom of this page.

Streetcar Scheme

Streetcars are pay-as-you-go cars parked on over 1,000 streets across London and the south east. They can be booked for any duration up to six months and are accessible 24/7 by a smartcard or smart phone.

Each Streetcar based in Islington has a permit for the controlled parking zone in which it is located and can be parked in any resident bay in that zone.

This scheme may be a useful alternative to regularly hiring cars. More information can be found on the Streetcar website.
