Parking Attendant Name Change

One of the changes brought about by the Traffic Management Act 2004 is that Parking Attendants will be known as Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs) from 31 March 2008. So, where you see the CEO or civil enforcement officer on these webpages just think parking attendant.

Trade in Your Parking Permit and Get £200 Towards Green Travel

If you are thinking of trading in your car in favour of a more environmentally friendly form of travel we are now offering a £200 incentive to do so. The first 300 applicants will be supplied with a £200 voucher that can be put toward a bicycle or used in Islington's Streetcar club. For more details follow the Vouchers for Permits link on the right.

New Online Parking Services

As part of our common sense approach to parking it is now easier to renew your resident permit, buy visitor vouchers or a permission to park notice by using our new online services. Simply follow the Parking Forms link under Related Information.

Permission to park notices are available for when you have builders or contractors working. They provide all day parking places in resident, business and pay and display parking bays. Your tradespeople will now have the convenience of organising their permission to park notice using the link on the right and printing it out themselves rather than queuing in a parking shop.

Common Sense Parking in Islington

There are more cars than parking spaces on our roads and every council has to try and tackle the problems that this causes.

Islington, like many other London borough, is made up of areas where parking is prioritised for residents and local businesses called controlled parking zones (CPZs).

CPZs reduce commuter parking to help local residents and their visitors park near their homes. Spaces are allocated for business parking and there are over 3,000 pay and display parking spaces for short-term parking.

We maintain and enforce Islington's CPZs and deliver services in line with the council’s key parking objectives:

  • ensure our roads are safe
  • enable traffic to flow freely
  • give residents and local businesses priority over commuters
  • provide parking for disabled people and health care workers
  • ensure that the parking rules are enforced using common sense

A copy of our common sense parking charter can be downloaded at the link below.

In addition to keeping Islington moving, the revenue generated from all parking charges is spent on road safety schemes, road safety training in schools and concessionary fares, such as the freedom pass and the London taxi-card scheme, which benefit elderly and disabled residents.
