This project is part of Islington’s Climate Change Fund and it is aimed at encouraging cycling by helping to overcome problems faced by residents without secure cycle parking. Islington Council is engaging with residents where a lack of secure cycle parking is acting as a barrier to people choosing to travel by bike.
We are looking to pilot secure cycle parking within housing estates and on the public highway. It is hoped that we will be able to trial a cycle parking compound for at least one estate and to design and trial an on street facility during 2008/09.
The scheme will identify the types of issues faced by residents and hopes to record the changes in travel behaviour that can occur when secure cycle parking is provided.
The successful implementation of this pilot could lead to a wider roll out of secure cycle parking, resulting in a decrease in CO2 emissions in the borough.
