Cycle Schemes

Cycle Schemes

Encouraging and making cycling safer is an important priority for Islington Council.

These pages provide information on cycle routes and cycle specific schemes such as the London Cycle Network Plus programme and local cycle routes.

Other projects that impact on cycling are not covered in this section but are discussed as part of the specific project that they fall under.

This website will also be used for consulting, for example design plans for new cycle schemes will be made available through this site for comment. Check this site regularly for the latest news on cycle routes and cycle schemes within Islington.

London Cycle Network Plus (LCN+)
The aim of this programme is to improve facilities for cyclists and increase the number of cyclists in London. This network is building on the success of the LCN and will eventually cover some 900km by 2009-10. The LCN+ programme is part of the Mayor of London's cycling action plan. The London boroughs deliver the programme with the assistance of funding from the Cycling Centre of Excellence at Transport for London. For more information on cycling in London, please see Transport for London's pages about cycling under useful websites.

If you require more information on the LCN+, route numbers, route planners, destinations and so forth, please visit London Cycle Network under useful websites.

Islington Council has been awarded funding by the Cycling Centre of Excellence to implement schemes along some of the LCN+ routes within our borough. These are LCN+ links 106, 108 and 110. Click the links on the left for more information.

Cycle Route Implementation and Stakeholder Plan (CRISP)
Cycle Route Implementation and Stakeholder Plan (CRISP) studies were a new concept by the Cycling Centre of Excellence for 2004-05. A CRISP study is a very comprehensive feasibility study and it involves site meetings along a nominated LCN+ link held with key stakeholders. CRISP studies were completed on links 110, 111, 113 and part of link 106 last financial year. CRISP studies for 2005-06 include links 108, 109, 114 and 248.
