Green travel planning is when organisations such as large companies, schools, universities or residential communities encourage green travel over car use.
In September 2003, Islington Council completed its own Green Travel Plan
(GTP), which contained 66 actions to be implemented between 2003 and 2005.
The GTP was then revised in 2006 and formally adopted by the council in April.

Other organisations in the borough are also developing or implementing Green Travel Plans, including hospitals, universities, not-for-profit organisations and a number of developers.
The North Central Travel-plan Network has been set up to provide businesses and other organisations located in North Central London with information, opportunities and advice about travel plans. It is a joint initiative between Transport for London and the London Boroughs of Camden, Islington and Haringey.
