Due to needs identified in the London cycling action plan, the necessity to support highway authorities to maintain cycle routes and facilities has arisen. To this end the LCN+ project management team developed an asset management initiative strategy that aims to address maintenance issues along the LCN+ and also continue to raise the standard of the LCN+. A draft strategy was developed in September 2004.
Specialist inspectors assessed all LCN+ links within the pilot boroughs, of which Islington was one. Fixing faults that affect the ride comfort and safety of cyclists is a major target of the strategy.
Islington has subsequently won funding for maintenance and works, including resurfacing, surface repairs and drainage repairs, to address these faults.
