All premises where cooling towers and evaporative condensers are situated must register with the local authority under The Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Regulations 1992.
The prime purpose of this is to identify potential areas that could give rise to spread of infectious disease e.g. legionella and to ensure preventative measures are taken to eliminate the risk of such infection arising to employees and the public.
How to apply
You can notify us of any cooling towers or evaporative condensers on your premises, or of any changes to these on-line at:
Licences and regulations | UK Welcomes | Business Link
Or by downloading the registration form below, and sending it to us.
Will tacit consent apply?
Yes, if an application is made online. This means that you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard from the council by the end of the target completion period. The Council's target completion period for cooling tower notifications is 11 calendar days.
Failed application redress
Please contact Islington Council in the first instance.

Consumer complaint
We would always advise that in the event of a complaint the first contact is made with the trader by you - preferably in the form a letter (with proof of delivery). If that has not worked, if you are located in the UK, Consumer Direct will give you advice. From outside the UK contact the UK European Consumer Centre.
