Islington has more plaques than you might think. You can use these pages to explore some of the personalities and events that are commemorated with plaques in the borough.

Islington’s green heritage plaques commemorate significant people, places and events within the borough. With the Islington People's Plaques scheme we are commemorating more people every year.

Islington People's Plaques

For a second year running we are asking the public to nominate which person, place or event they would like to see commemorated with a plaque. Have a look at the Islington People’s Plaques page to find out how to nominate.

Some of last years plaques included:

• Early feminist Mary Wollstonecraft
• The Keskidee Centre, Britain's first arts and cultural centre for the black community
• The Peasants' Revolt of 1381 and the destruction of Highbury Manor
• Artist Walter Sickert
• John Wright, founder of the Little Angel Theatre
• Crystal Hale, boat club pioneer
