Get Free Wireless Internet Access with StreetNet

There’s an exciting and new way to access high-speed internet services and applications while you’re out and about in Islington.

StreetNet allows you to access local information and services as if you were connected to a wired network. What’s more, it’s free to use. Anyone with a wireless-enabled PDA or laptop can use the service, at any time.

What You Can Access

There’s a wide range of free services that you can easily access any time:

  • latest news, weather and sport
  • local information
  • council services
  • free access to the world wide web (for a limited period)

How To Use StreetNet

  • Make sure you are inside the coverage zone shown on the map
  • Select StreetNet from the list of available networks on your wireless device
  • StreetNet services are delivered through your internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator etc.)

In order to connect to StreetNet, you will need one of the following.

A PDA with:

  • Microsoft Pocket PC
  • Palm OS

A laptop computer with:

  • Microsoft Windows XP, 2000 or '98
  • Microsoft Tablet XP
  • Linux 2.2 kernel upwards
  • Apple OS 9.0 upwards

StreetNet is broadcast using the ESSID ‘StreetNet’

Devices using Windows XP or Pocket PC 2003 may automatically detect the network. Select ‘StreetNet’ from this list of available networks. For wireless network adapters that operate with the manufacturer’s software, enter the ESSID ‘StreetNet’ in the wireless network configuration settings.
