Leisure and Culture

Image of Arsenal Emirates Stadium

There is a wealth of things to see and do in Islington. Whether it is catching a new play at one of the borough's pub theatres, taking in world-renowned dance at Sadler's Wells, or watching Arsenal at Emirates Stadium, there is something for everybody.

The bars and restaurants of Upper Street and its surrounding areas are famous throughout London, with varied menus and prices to suit everyone's taste. And with music clubs dotted around the borough, Islington is also a great place to catch live music.

If you prefer to get out and exercise, Islington has 127 parks, open spaces and playgrounds - including Islington Green and Highbury Fields, tucked away behind frantic Highbury Corner. We also have leisure centres at Archway and Finsbury, swimming pools on Highbury Crescent and Ironmonger Row and a tennis club on Market Road.

If shopping is your thing, Islington has no shortage of boutiques and unique shops, such as the collection of antiques shops at Camden Passage. For larger stores, there's also the bustling, modern N1 Centre.
