Highbury City Tennis Club

Children living in inner-city areas are less likely to travel in order to play sport. But if tennis is provided closer to home, for example in a local park or as an after-school club activity, the game becomes much more accessible.

The City Tennis Club programme was created to do just this.  It removes barriers by offering a year round tennis programme in areas not well served by other tennis clubs, which helps introduce a new audience to tennis.

You can find CTCs across the whole UK, Islington's CTC is based at Highbury Fields tennis courts. CTCs have extensive coaching programmes for all ages, abilities and backgrounds. They also organise festivals, fun days, and club and inter-club competitions. Accredited CTCs are brought together for a yearly inter-city challenge.

CTCs run a range of tennis for younger players, including Mini Tennis for the under-10s as well as tennis programmes for teenagers. All CTCs have LTA licensed coaches who oversee the running of the coaching programmes for children and adults. The success of the clubs also relies on volunteers and adult members who are responsible for the development of the club.

All Play Tennis

If you need help finding your local courts or somebody to play with, visit www.allplaytennis.com. You can search for people in your area of a similar standard who are looking for a game and even contact them to get started. It’s all part of allplay, a national campaign brought to you by the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association), to help more people play tennis.
