Ironmonger Row Baths and Finsbury Leisure Centre Consultation

Islington Council, in partnership with EC1 New Deal for Communities (NDC), is very keen to improve the range of leisure, sport and community facilities available at these sites.

At the end of last year we consulted with local people and centre users to find out what they think of our refurbishment ideas for these buildings and what facilities they would like to see. The results of the consultation enabled us to put together outline proposals for redeveloping the centres.

The results of the consultation and our proposals are now available by clicking on the link entitled 'Ironmonger Row Baths and Finsbury Leisure Centre' on the right under Related Information.

Sports Clubs

From football to karate, and swimming to bowls, all varieties of sport are played and competed in across Islington. Whichever sporting activity you are interested in, you will very likely be able to find a club that caters for you in the borough, or nearby. To check out details of sporting events, openings and special offers in the borough, click on the What's New in Sport link under the main navigation list on the left side of this page.

Listed in the main navigation on the left side of this page are links to local clubs, listed alphabetically by their sport (not by the club's name). We want to have as many club details as possible covering a wide variety of activities, so anyone looking for a club to join will find it here.

If you would like to submit your club's details for others to view, email  daniel.jarvis@islington.gov.uk at the Greenspace and Leisure Division of the council for a submission and data protection form. Once you've completed and returned these, your club will appear on the relevant page on the left.

For more information about sports clubs and other local activities, click on the Directory of Local Services link, on the right under Useful Websites.

The vision of the partnership is:

A borough wide sport and leisure partnership that will, through the promotion of healthy and active living, contribute to social inclusion, positive engagement, regeneration and civic pride.

The aim of the partnership is:

To raise the profile of sport and physical activity opportunities in the borough, by providing a strategic focus for the coordination, planning and development of programmes aimed at increasing the levels of physical activity and sport participation.

The last two years the partnership has delivered and funded the ProActive Islington Sports and Cycling Festival in partnership with Islington’s Green Travel Team outside the Emirates stadium that has attracted over 13,000 visitors to the event.

Please see the Strategy and Action Plan attached for further information on the current work of ProActive Islington
