Square is a valued green space situated less than four miles from the centre
of London. Opened in March 2000 the park is popular with the local community,
schools and youth groups With play equipment suitable for toddlers as well as
a flat area of grass – great for a kick-about, ample seating and space for
picnics and areas to attract wild life there is something for everyone.
From
May until November a number of events are held in the park including the
popular Music Festival in June. With an active Friends Group community
involvement is at the heart of the success of this park.

Green is situated on the border of Islington and Hackney, reopened in May 2005
following an extensive redevelopment programme. The 0.66-hectare park has a
modern playground, café and toilet. Seating is arranged so groups can sit
together facing each other with surrounding lawns where children can play.
A
Ranger is based at the site and during the summer they organise a number of
children’s activities. There are also a number of larger events held
throughout the year including International Jazz Festival, the Winter Market
and a Festival of Light. Hidden around the park are 11 bronze sculptured
‘Treasures’ that tell of the changes Newington Green has seen, they give a
fascinating insight to the areas history.
