What is a housing strategy?
It sets out the council’s vision and plans for housing in the borough for the next five years, based on the needs of its residents. Islington is currently developing a new housing strategy for 2008 to 2012.
Consultation on the new housing strategy
Over the last four months the housing strategy and policy section has been consulting with residents and other stakeholders in Islington’s housing to find out what you think are the most important housing issues for the borough and how these issues should be tackled.
Feedback from this consultation will directly feed into the new housing strategy.
The consultation process was undertaken in four main ways:
We made special efforts to make sure that all Islington’s residents and communities had an opportunity to feed into the housing strategy. In partnership with Disability Action Islington, we consulted with over 20 members of Islington’s disabled and Deaf communities.
What happens next?
Over the next two weeks we will be writing a report summarising feedback from the different types of consultation.
This report will be available for everyone to access here.
Between now and the end of summer we will draft the housing strategy. We will be asking for your views again on this draft before the final version is completed.
Once the strategy has been produced it will be monitored to ensure it is put into practice.
