Private Sector Opportunities Scheme

Private Sector Opportunities Scheme

The Private Sector Opportunities Scheme is an incentive to encourage landlords to offer housing to homeless people. It also offers a package of advice and support if you are looking for private sector housing, and it means you do not have to pay your deposit to your landlord if they are part of this scheme.

Who It Is For

If you are applying to the council as homeless, you can apply to this scheme through us. If you have already applied and been accepted as homeless by the Council, and wish to consider renting a property in the private sector, you can also apply to this scheme through us.

How It Works

A housing officer will assess whether you qualify for this scheme and will tell you whether places are available. We work with landlords and agents to have a steady supply of accommodation in which homeless households can be housed. We can also provide help if you would like to find the accommodation yourself.

You can apply to live in any area using this scheme, but you should bear in mind that renting in some parts of London is more expensive than in others. Your housing advice officer or housing benefit officer will be able to advise you on what size of property and what area would best suit your needs.
