Islington, like many London boroughs, has a diverse range of housing and accommodation. Our aim is to ensure that all residents have the opportunity to live in good quality, affordable homes in safe, sustainable communities.
Within the borough, the council is the largest single landlord with 23,000 tenancies and 9,000 leaseholders. There are also 43,500 privately-owned homes and around 11,000 housing association homes in the borough. Most aspects of council housing now fall under Homes for Islington, an arms-length management organisation.
If you are a council tenant and want information or services, go to the Homes for Islington website by clicking on the link under Useful Websites.
Regional Champions in Homelessness
Islington Council has been
chosen by the Government as a regional champion to help other local
authorities tackle homelessness.
It is one of only two local authorities in London to be selected as a mentor by the Department of Communities and Local Government.
The Housing Aid Centre has been awarded charter mark status by central government for excellence in customer service.
New Council Homes for Islington
The council’s Executive has
given the go ahead to start building new council homes in the borough, the
first for over 20 years.
Homes for Islington will manage the pilot to build these new houses, maisonettes and flats. Where possible these will be larger family-sized homes to help relieve the borough’s overcrowded families.
