Empty Property Grants

Empty Property Grants

Islington is committed to partnership-working with other London councils including Haringey, Camden, Enfield, Barnet and Westminster - together they form the North London Sub-Region. The sub-region has a dedicated empty property team.

Owner Occupation Grants

One of the sub-regional initiatives is an empty property owner occupation grant for either current or prospective owners to use an empty property (or part of an empty property) as their primary home and who need financial assistance to make their property habitable.

Whilst the grant (up to a maximum of £25,000) is available for first time buyers (with an additional incentive for keyworkers of up to £10,000), it is necessary to find a property that has been empty for at least a year to qualify for a grant.

Further Information

Islington does not publish a list of empty properties in the borough but there are a variety of means of finding such properties. Some useful information about finding an empty property and tracing the owners can be found on the No Use Empty website (Kent County Council) linked from the right of this page.
