Housing

Islington, like many London boroughs, has a diverse range of housing and accommodation. Our aim is to ensure that all residents have the opportunity to live in good quality, affordable homes in safe, sustainable communities.

Within the borough, the council is the largest single landlord with 23,000 tenancies and 9,000 leaseholders. There are also 43,500 privately-owned homes and around 11,000 housing association homes in the borough. Most aspects of council housing now fall under Homes for Islington, an arms-length management organisation.

If you are a council tenant or leaseholder, looking for information about the management or maintenance of your home, please visit the Homes for Islington website.

If you are living in private rented accommodation and claiming housing or council tax benefit you could be affected by new caps on the amount you can claim, as well as other changes to the UK benefits system. For more information visit benefits changes 2011
