In England the number of cases of swine flu continues to rise rapidly. Although the number of cases continues to rise, the majority of patients have suffered mild symptoms. Islington Council, working with Islington NHS, will continue to monitor the situation and take advice from Government and the NHS on how to deal with this situation as it changes.
Our Swine flu advice and update page will be updated regularly to reflect any changes to National advice and give any relevant local information.
A text number making it easier for young people to access help and advice has been launched by Islington Council’s drug and alcohol service.
Young people aged between eight and 18 who are using drugs, alcohol or solvents, or who are affected by a friend or family member using them, can text ‘drugs’ followed by their name to 60777.
They will then be called by a member of The Annexe - Islington's drug and alcohol service - within one working day, who can offer them confidential information and support.
In the last year the service has given support to around 300 young people, offering group and one-to-one sessions as well as family counselling.
Text messages to the service are charged at the standard network rate.
Young people can still also call the existing service number on 020 7527 5099.
For further information is available on the webpages of the Islington Drug and Alcohol Action Team.
