Hearty Lives Islington

Working in partnership with British Heart Foundation (BHF), Hearty Lives Islington is a £100,000 BHF funded project to encourage food businesses to make simple changes to make their food healthier for customers and to communicate healthy heart messages to the public.

What we do:

  • Cafes, restaurants, take-aways, and sandwich shops in Islington are being encouraged by our Environmental Health Officers to make simple changes so that the food served to their customers is healthier. These simple changes include using less salt and saturated fat.

  • Businesses that demonstrate they have taken steps to make their food healthier will receive a Healthier Catering Commitment certificate and door sticker.

  • Customers will be able to recognise the businesses that have shown this commitment by a sticker on the door or window, and an online logo.

  • All businesses, from kebab shops to pizza take-aways, are encouraged to apply for the scheme.

  • The Environmental Health Team is also working with local businesses such as builders merchants to encourage them to act as heart health information points.
