Refugee Week
Refugee Week is celebrated in the UK each year to coincide with World Refugee Day on 20 June. It is a unique opportunity to celebrate the positive contributions that refugees and asylum seekers make to the UK and to promote understanding about why people seek sanctuary.
Islington refugee communities bring to the borough a wealth of culture. Islington Refugee Week events help highlight this, emphasise refugee issues, and deliver positive educational messages that counter fear, ignorance and negative stereotypes of refugees, through arts, cultural and educational events.
You can find out details of all the events that took place in Islington from 2007 to 2008 via the Refugee Week publication and calendar of events produced by IRIS. You can download these from the bottom of this page.
Volunteers Needed!
We’re keen to hear from volunteers, with good administration and interpersonal skills, who are willing to help in the setting-up and running of the events.
Please email Zoë Batten at zoe.batten@islington.gov.uk for further information.
