Islington Council supports a range of transport services for communities within the borough who have specific transport needs, such as people with disabilities or the elderly.
These include:
The council funds the Freedom Pass, providing free public transport to all older and disabled people in the borough.
Islington invests about £5.5 million each year so that older and disabled residents can travel for free around the capital and now you can travel out of London using your pass on the local bus services across England and some train networks.
Applying for a Freedom Pass
If you are over 60, you should apply for your pass at your local Post Office. Disabled pass holders over 60 should also apply for a pass at the local Post Office as there is now no difference between the two passes in terms of peak time use. If you are under 60 and have a permanent disability and want to apply for a freedom pass you will need to contact the relevant Social Services office listed below.
Renewal of your Freedom Pass 2010
If you still have the old style Freedom Pass, these will no longer be valid from April 2010 and you need to apply for a new Freedom pass as soon as possible. People who are 60 and over can apply directly to any London Post Office. If you are disabled you should have received information early in the new year about how you can get your Freedom Pass renewed. If you are disabled and have not heard from us please contact the relevant office detailed below. For further information you can call the Freedom Pass hot-line on Tel: 0845 275 7054 or 020 7934 9633.
