Draft Planning Guidance

Paradise Park / New River College Pupil Referral Unit (Lough Road), St David’s Church site (74-76 Westbourne Road), and Children with Disabilities Respite Centre (61-67 Lough Road) N7 8RH

Islington Council is planning to redevelop the Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Lough Road to provide suitable and improved education facilities for young people.

The redevelopment is part of the £140 million Building Schools for the Future Programme, which is transforming Islington’s secondary schools by 2012.

We are currently consulting on the draft planning guidance document for these sites, which are located in the west of the borough, opposite Paradise Park on the south-western side of Lough Road.

The guidance also sets out how the St David’s Church site and neighbouring Children with Disabilities Respite Centre could be redeveloped in the future, by providing guidance on land use, building scale, accessibility and transport.

How to comment on the draft guidance

The consultation period is from 17 November 2008 until 12 December 2008.

As part of the consultation we will be holding drop-in sessions at Paradise Park / New River College Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), N7 8RH and also at Central Library, 2 Fieldway Crescent, N5 1PF at the following dates and times:

• Wednesday 19 November 2008 6pm – 8pm (PRU)
• Thursday 27 November 2008 6pm – 8pm (PRU)
• Saturday 29 November 2008 10am-1pm (Central Library)

Next Steps

Once the consultation period has finished the draft will be amended to reflect any issues raised and will provide planning guidance to the future development of the site. It will then be presented to the West Area Committee for adoption on 20 January 2009.

There will be further statutory consultation for the Paradise Park/ New River College Pupil Referral Unit site as part of the detailed planning application process, once proposals for the site have been drawn up.
