Forestry Commission and Mayor of London's Award

Islington Council's Tree Service have won a very prestigious accolade: The Forestry Commission and Mayor of London's Award for 'Excellence in Tree and Woodland Work by a Public Body'. This award acknowledges that we are leading the way in Urban Forest management.

The Forestry Commission have also chosen us as a case study of best practice in their Tree and Woodland Strategy Guidance Document.

Our methods are being emulated by other teams around the country and we have been visited by Tree Officers from many other councils. We are proud to have been recognised for our forward thinking working practices and systems.

  • We are among  the first to have recorded all our trees on a database
  • We have regular cyclical maintenance for trees on our streets and housing land
  • We value our trees using the CAVAT system, (Capital Asset Value for Amenity Trees)
  • We have an excellent working partnership with our maintenance contractor - City Suburban
  • We are actively involved in the London Tree Officers' Association
  • We are developing new strategies to deal with tree issues in the modern environment such as damage to trees by dogs
