Highbury Fields is Islington’s largest public open space. It serves a wide range of people from across Islington and beyond.
In 2006 the council worked with the Highbury Fields Association and the local community to develop a vision for the future of the site. A Vision for Highbury Fields was produced following extensive consultation with residents, local schools, community groups and other stakeholders. East Area Committee approved the Vision document on 17 July 2007. You can download a copy of the Vision below.
A key recommendation from the Vision was to establish a management group for the park. The Highbury Fields Management Group was set up in 2009 to directly involve local councillors and community groups in the management of the Fields. The council has worked with the Management Group to identify the key priorities from the Vision. The council will now be investing £1m on improvements to the Fields over the next year.
The improvements will include replacing old wooden fencing; developing a furniture and materials guide to make sure similar benches, litter bins and materials are used across the park; improving the café and kids club; removing redundant buildings; painting railings and repairing the paths.
