Climate change is one of the most serious threats facing the world today. There is an urgent need to reduce our contribution to climate change and to adopt a way of living that respects environmental limits of the planet.
Islington Council recognises that climate change is a global issue that requires local action, and that a path of sustainable development needs to be followed to ensure the best quality of life for the borough, both now and in the future.
Tackling climate change is approached by mitigating (minimising) the impact we have on the environment so that we are able to slow the rate of climate change. And taking steps to adapt to climate change so that we are preparing now for the inevitable effects of climate change predicted to occur due to carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases already emitted into the atmosphere.
Islington Council recognises that both climate change mitigation and adaptation are important elements to ensuring that we are all doing our bit to help tackle climate change. Use the menu on the left had side to see what actions are already being taken in Islington and in the UK. You will also find ways that you can get involved and do your bit.
