Love Food Hate Waste

Three bags of food waste

Around a quarter of all the food and drink we buy ends up being thrown away and most of it could have been consumed. Imagine buying four bags of food and throwing one away!

Save money and help the environment too

Wasting this food is not only a waste of money – an average family with children throws away an average of £680 of food a year – but it also damages the environment.

Producing, storing and getting the food to our homes uses a lot of energy. If we all stop wasting food that could have been eaten the CO2 impact would be the equivalent of taking 1 in 4 cars off the road.

Most of this food reaches landfill sites where it emits methane, a greenhouse gas that’s twenty times more powerful than CO2.
