Wormeries

Wormeries

A Can o' Worms exploded diagram

Did you know that worms eat up to half their weight in food waste every day?

If you have a small patio garden or a balcony, a wormery is a great way to recycle your left over food. Worms are easy to keep and are an extraordinarily efficient way of converting kitchen food waste into liquid plant feed and rich, organic compost.

They will gobble up vegetable peelings, cooked and uncooked food, tea bags, egg-shells, paper towels, tissues, shredded card and even the contents of your vacuum cleaner bag!

Islington residents can buy the following wormeries at subsidised prices:

  • 45 litre wormery is £30 (including delivery)
  • 70 litre wormery is £50 (including delivery)

Islington Council also offers subsidised compost bins, Green Johannas, Green Cones and composting workshops. More information can be found under Composting on the left-hand side of this page.
