Islington Council launches an organic waste recycling service for businesses
Following Islington’s successful trial of commercial food waste collections (funded by the London Development Agency) we are offering an organic waste collection service for all businesses in the borough, including local offices, theatres, shops, restaurants and cafes.
The commercial food waste service will enable you to divert food waste from landfill, where it rots and produces methane - a powerful greenhouse gas that is 20 times more damaging than carbon dioxide. We will work with you to provide a convenient collection service that suits your needs.
What happens to the collected food waste?
Food waste, once collected from the businesses is taken to an anaerobic digestion plant to be converted into energy and bio-fertiliser. For more information about this process, please visit the Biogen website.
