All rubbish and recycling collections will operate as normal during Christmas and the New Year, with all collections being made on the usual days.
Make sure your tree stays truly green even after the needles begin to fall by recycling your Christmas tree this January.
If you live in a street property you can simply leave your Christmas tree at the edge of your property along with your normal green waste from Monday 2nd January 2012. If you live on an estate, please contact your Area Housing Office for more information on how to recycle your Christmas tree.
There will also be four sites in Islington parks for you to bring your Christmas tree to between Tuesday 3rd January and Monday 16th January:
• King’s Square
• Rosemary Gardens
• Elthorne Park
• Barnard Park.
The trees should only be left in the sign posted and enclosed tree collection areas and please remove all tree decorations.
The Household Reuse and Recycling Centre, Hornsey Street will also accept green waste and Christmas trees all year round.
Trees that appear after the Christmas tree period will be collected by the refuse/recycling crews on normal collection days.
Recycling services on Islington’s estates will be changing over the coming months.
An extra 10,000 estate households will soon being able to recycle their food waste and more blocks of flats will get easy to use recycling chutes. We will also be putting out hundreds of new communal recycling sites but we will have to withdraw the door-to-door recycling collection service because of new government fire safety guidelines on collecting recycling from flats.
We want to make sure we get recycling right on each estate so residents currently receiving a door to door collection will receive a letter detailing the proposed changes together with a map showing the location of the proposed new recycling sites and a feedback card. We welcome feedback about these sites as residents are familiar about what would work on their estate.
The new communal recycling banks are convenient as residents can recycle any day they like and at any time between 8am and 8pm. We will empty them frequently to make sure they do not overflow and the bins will be clearly labelled to show what residents can recycle in them
Recycling costs less than waste disposal. Last year residents saved Islington more than £500,000 by recycling.

If you would like to purchase odour filters, the following suppliers sell them. Other suppliers may be available.
