Schoolchildren with recycling bins

Islington Council provides free recycling collections to schools, colleges and universities.

We also provide both outdoor and indoor recycling bins free of charge for this service. Collections can take place on a weekly or fortnightly basis. We collect:

  • mixed paper

  • cardboard

  • glass bottles and containers

  • plastic bottles

  • metal tins, cans and aerosols

Food Recycling Scheme

Subject to suitable storage provisions, recycling of organic food waste is available on request to all Islington schools free of charge. The organic waste is sent to Edmonton Eco-Park for composting. We collect:

  • meat and fish

  • eggs and eggs shells

  • fruit and vegetables

  • cut flowers

  • tea bags

i-recycle Centre

Islington’s innovative, award-winning education centre features exciting interactive displays, interesting artefacts and videos about recycling and waste issues.

The centre offers curriculum-linked workshops to schools, bespoke sessions for community groups, teacher’s workshops, open days for local residents and workshops for groups working with young people such as youth groups.
